The case of Viktor Bout who was first arrested in Bangkok, Thailand in 2008 has at long last reached closure all be it may be only temporary closure as a New York Court have rejected his legal appeal against his conviction on charges of illicit arms trafficking. The Court has now confirmed that Viktor Bout will be sentenced on March 02, 2012.

On November 02, 2011 Viktor Bout was found guilty of – conspiring to kill U.S. officials and citizens, of acquiring and intending to use anti-aircraft missiles and to providing support to terrorists –  by the jury of the Federal District Court of New York.

Viktor Bout has maintained his innocence on all charges for nearly four years and we expect that there is likely to be more future twists and turns in this amazing case and the latest comments from the Bout legal counsel are – quote –  Russian Vice Consul in New York Alexander Otchainov expressed disappointment with the court ruling in Bout’s case on Wednesday. – more – “The Russian position remains unchanged – Viktor Bout is not guilty,”

Viktor Bout is very highly thought of by very senior Russian Diplomats – Lawmakers – Business Men and politicians and sometime in the near future it would come as no surprise if Russia gained the release of Viktor Bout in some political trade off deal or other.
