The debate of the day is whether the audacious break organised by Nairo Quintana – Movistar and mercurial Alberto Contador – Tinkoff  crushed Chris Froome – Sky and Estaban Chaves – OBE – Orica – Bike Exchange. Watching on livestream Quintana and Contador drove the hammer down for over 70 Kilometers in the lead group with a lead that fluctuated around the 2.10 to 3.00 minute marker ahead of the chasing group of Froome and Chaves…

On close up it appears that Chris Froome cracked as his team mates were shed out the back of the chasing group, resulting leaving Chris Froome isolated riding alone in the scrappy looking main peloton.

It is a lonely business in a Grand Tour when one of the elite riders in the world gets exposed, not pretty it was grim viewing seeing Froome on the radio back to Team Sky – Director Sportif appealing for more riders to chase the main peloton and get up to support the fading Chris Froome. Alas for Froome the Team Sky riders had cracked and been blown away in the mountains up in the hot steamy demanding terrain of North of Spain…

15.7 Kilometers remaining in the stage 15 Chris Froome looked like a rider having a nightmare of a day that threatened to shatter any chance he had left to win the 2016 Vuelta Espana…

13 Kilometer left Astana moved to head up the main peloton but the chase was looking anything but effective, it looks like the lights have gone out in the bedraggled chasing group still led by the brave Luis Leon Sanchez of Astana…

Meanwhile news coming in the rest of Team Sky or riding along in the bus that picks up all the back markers in the stage 25 minutes down on the day…

On to 8 kilometers to go Quintana is putting on the pain as he puts down the hammer as the leading group whittles down to only 8 riders, Nairo Quintana and Alberto Contador look like the stage bosses…

4.4 kilometers to go the leading group headed by Quintana are 2.07 minutes ahead of Froome – Chaves and the main peloton…

Just under 6 kilometers to go as the lead group stretches the lead on the main peloton to more than 2 minutes…

2.7 km to go Froome at 2.10 minutes down and he looks to have cracked he is done…

2.0 km marker Quintana group is down to a trio Gianluca Brambilla – ETIXX – QUICK STEP (EQS) – with Alberto Contador sitting in… and then Alberto cracks it is down to two…

Gianluca Brambilla  is sat in on Nairo Quintano and comes round at the 400 meter marker to pass Nairo and win the stage…

What an epic stage “Chapeau” to Gianluca Brambilla – ETIXX – QUICK STEP (EQS) he started the breakaway worked hard all day and was a classy worthy winner of the 2016 Vuelta Espana – Stage 15.
